Bao Lac

Bao Lac district is located in the extreme north of Cao Bang province. It is known for its ethnic market and the traditions of the Black Lolo, the dominant ethnic group living in the mountain range. Bao Lac also offers many trekking trails to reach the ethnic villages of the Black Lolo. This moderate level walk will take you through beautiful rice terraces, steep valleys and small minority hamlets.

Trung Khanh

Located about 60 km from Cao Bang city, Trung Khanh is famous for Ban Gioc waterfall, the most beautiful waterfall in Southeast Asia. Trung Khanh has many places worth trekking such as Ban Viet lake, Cao Vit nature reserve, Nguom Ngao cave, Thoong Cot and Thoong Tac waterfalls (Bac Vong river) and Khuoi Ky stone house village.

Quang Uyen

The trek to Quang Uyen allows you to cross villages of traditional trades of the Nung ethnic group such as the village of Phuc Sen forges, the village of Phia Thap incense sticks, the village of Lan Duoi baskets. You can admire the rice terraces, meet ethnic minorities and discover their daily life and their culture.

Ta Lung

A wonderful trek of several days along the Chinese border on mountain trails leading to Thai, Nung and Dao villages, ethnic groups with strong Chinese influences. Thang Hen Lake

Thang Hen Lake is perched on top of a mountain in Quoc Toan commune, Tra Linh district. Surrounded by mountains, this serene lake is at its best during the rainy season. Walking in the nearby mountains, you will meet local people, shepherds or farmers.

Phieng Muong

Phieng Muong Hill is located in Quang Lam commune, Bao Lam district, 160 km from downtown Cao Bang. Arriving at the top of the hill, you have in front of your eyes the green bowl of wild nature of the vast grassy hill.

When to go trekking in Cao Bang ?

The best time to trek in Cao Bang is from October to April. It is the dry season and the temperature is cool.

October and November are known for the splendid season of wild flowers on the trails of Cao Bang.

If you are not afraid of the cold, a winter trip (December to January) Cao Bang may be perfect for you. During this time, the rain has almost stopped therefore, the trek becomes easier.

Spring from March to April is the ideal time to visit Cao Bang. You can explore the nature, meadows and forests dotted with the bright greens of spring without getting too hot.

If you can only come in the summer, we highly recommend you to take easy and short treks by car. It is the rainy season, Ban Gioc waterfall has the most water, so it is more spectacular than the rest of the year.
