Episode 3: Chúc suc khoe!… or how to get a hangover

So here we are in a traditional house in the middle of the rice fields with the long-tunic Dao :

The comfort is basic but sufficient, the cleanliness irreproachable: on the ground floor the kitchen and the dining room,

on the floor a dormitory of 14 places (we will be alone with Vinh and Nghia),

outside 2 showers and 2 toilets, rice fields below, rice fields above, rice fields on the right, rice fields on the left and rice fields on the horizon, no road.

The cook prepares us an excellent and copious meal.

Vinh did not warn us that the only drink at the table is rice alcohol.

The glasses full, we toast with our charming cook and her friend.

We try to empty our glass slowly, but we feel a certain pressure of our hosts. Surprised, then we finish it. Relieved we think of attacking these sympathetic dishes: no bowl hardly the empty glass, a charitable soul fills it again to us to avoid the dehydration… and we leave for 1 second glass, then a third (Anne Marie declared forfeit), a fourth,… etc… I don’t know from when Vinh adds a “dry bottom”.

While Nghia takes care of the pictures, Vinh starts to sing and teaches us the lines (which I forgot).

Between 2 glasses, we still have the time to taste some duck lacquered, some nems of pigs, some chicken, …. everything is excellent.

While we go to bed, Vinh and Nghia continue to descend glasses.

It is quite astonished not to have the hangover (curiously Vinh and Nghia have “a little” headache) that I wake up the morning to admire a fabulous landscape of rice plantations :

Other work already: what is the weight of these few bamboos ?

Children go to school

After having greeted our neighbor of the house next door,

we leave for 2 hours of walk until the village where the car awaits us. Nghia found a motorcycle for the return

Here, we are in full harvest and as always, the inhabitants are very nice and as curious about us as we are about them: Vinh thus translates the exchanges.
