Pu Luong is a nature reserve located in Thanh Hoa province, 150 kilometers southwest of Hanoi. Pu Luong has breathtaking landscapes, including rice terraces, authentic villages and dense vegetation. This reserve is an ideal destination to admire the rice terraces, far from the traditional tourist circuits.

Located in the middle of numerous karst peaks, the rice terraces are particularly appreciated for their sublime golden yellow color. In addition to the rice fields, the reserve is distinguished by an exceptional biodiversity of majestic mountain ranges, lush vegetation, rivers and waterfalls, and remote villages.

When you come to Pu Luong, you will be able to discover the secrets of rice cultivation, a very difficult agricultural activity that requires considerable effort. In the middle of the rice fields, you will find impressive bamboo norias, large water wheels used for irrigation. This is one of the traditional methods still used today in Vietnam.

You will have the opportunity to meet the friendly local Thai and Muong ethnic groups who have been living there for a long time and discover their true way of life and their unique cultures.

Where to see the rice terraces in Pu Luong ?

Ban Don village

Ban Don village is located in Thanh Lam commune, in the heart of Pu Luong nature reserve. It is one of the main tourist villages of Pu Luong. This small village fascinates by its picturesque landscapes, its grandiose mountains, its splendid rice terraces and the warm welcome of the Thai people.

Kho Muong village

Kho Muong village is located in Thanh Son commune, one of the most beautiful preserved valleys in the heart of Pu Luong nature reserve. You will be able to admire the natural, peaceful landscape of terraced fields mixed with green mountains and primary forests.

Uoi village

The rice terraces of Uoi village are known as the second Mu Cang Chai in Vietnam. Upon arrival, you can enjoy a walk through the rice terraces. From this village you will walk through rustic hamlets, green palm forests and limestone mountains.

Eo Ken Village

Eo Ken village is located in Thanh Son commune. If you follow the national road 15C from Mai Chau to Pu Luong, you will see the landscape of Eo Kien rice terraces before you. It is a place where you can freely enjoy the rice terraces which are spread over a vast area.

Chieng Lau village

Stretching along the Cham River, Chieng Lau village is a golden beauty in the ripe rice season. Walk through the rice fields to the village and meet the locals to learn about their life, culture and customs. Come here, you can take a bamboo raft ride to admire the ripe rice fields and breathe the fresh air.

When to see the rice terraces in Pu Luong ?

You can visit Pu Luong at any time of the year. But to take beautiful pictures of the rice terraces, February to May and September to November are the best periods.

From February to May, it is the green season when the rice stalks have grown. During this period, Pu Luong is immersed in the green terraced fields.

September to October is the ripe rice season when the rice fields turn yellow and golden. It is the ideal time to admire the rice terraces that stretch across the valleys, mountains and hills.
